Pornography

The following is a review of pornography consumption patterns and effects of pornography on attitudes, cognitions, and behaviors. The review shows that pornography is widely circulated and used; predominately nonviolent pornography is used; main media outlets for consumption are the Internet, videos/DVDs, television, and magazines; and most often pornography is watched at home, either alone or with a regular sexual partner. Further, although causality cannot be conclusively established, an increasing amount of diverse empirical evidence suggests a variety of associations between pornography and certain cognitions, attitudes, and behaviors for a subgroup of users. This implies that possible links between pornography and certain cognitions, attitudes, and behaviors are moderated by individual and contextual differences.
