Much evidence guiding clinical decisions and preventive initiatives is derived from epidemiologic studies. Results of such studies may be influenced by incorrect information about participants. This article introduces the reader to information bias and discusses the role of data quality in epidemiologic studies. Also, the article presents an online calculator allowing the user to evaluate whether results of specific epidemiologic studies may be biased by information problems.
